4-Day Akagera National Park

Day 1: Arrival and Evening Wildlife Drive

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, our guide will meet you and transfer you to Akagera National Park, a scenic drive of approximately 2.5 hours. After checking into your lodge within the park, you’ll embark on an evening wildlife drive. This early introduction to Akagera allows you to observe a variety of animals as they become more active during the cooler hours of the day. Keep an eye out for elephants, buffaloes, and various antelope species. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, soaking in the tranquility of your surroundings.

Day 2: Full-Day Wildlife Safari and Bird Watching

Start your day with an early breakfast before setting out on a full-day wildlife safari. Explore different regions of Akagera National Park, where you’ll have opportunities to spot the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros—along with a variety of other wildlife. In addition to your game drive, enjoy bird-watching throughout the day, as Akagera is home to over 500 bird species. A picnic lunch will be provided amidst the stunning park landscapes. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon for dinner and relaxation.

Day 3: Boat Safari and Birding Expedition

After breakfast, embark on a boat safari on Lake Rwanyakazinga. This unique perspective allows you to view wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species that thrive along the lake’s shores. The boat safari is a fantastic opportunity for bird-watching, with the chance to spot species such as fish eagles and kingfishers. Following the boat safari, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided bird-watching walk in the park’s diverse habitats. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive and Departure

On your final day, enjoy an early morning game drive to experience Akagera’s wildlife one last time. This drive offers the chance to see animals as they start their day and provides a final opportunity for bird-watching. After your game drive, return to the lodge for a leisurely breakfast. Following check-out, you’ll be transferred back to Kigali. Depending on your departure time, you may have the chance to explore Kigali city before heading to the airport for your onward flight. Your safari concludes with memorable experiences and a deep appreciation for Akagera National Park’s rich biodiversity
